カリフォルニアワインのお勝手口

Woodbridgeの本拠地であり，Mondaviファミリーがワイン作りを始めた原点といえばLodi（ロウダイ）。この辺りのブドウではZinfandelが主役であり，コスト・パフォーマンスに優れたZinが数多く作られています。

そのLodiのワイン祭りZinfestが5月19～21日に開かれます。メインは土曜日（20日）のZinFest Wine Festival。21日にはワイナリのオープン・ハウスが開催されます。

ナパのように観光客が多いところではないので，行けば歓待されるのではないでしょうか。

カリフォルニアのワインが名だたるフランス・ワインをブラインド・テイスティングで破って一躍その名を轟かせたのが1976年6月7日のパリ・テイスティングでした。それから30年，パリ・テイスティングを再現するイベントが米英で同時開催されます。

英国はWaddesdon Manorという歴史的建造物で，米国はNapaのCOPIAが部隊です。カリフォルニアからはChateau Montelenaをはじめ，Joseph PhelpsのInsigniaやMount Eden Vineyard，Stag's Leap Wine Cellarsなどが参加します。

参加費は200ドルとやや高いですが，もしかしたら歴史的瞬間に立ち会えるかも。なお「The Judgment of Paris: California vs. France and the Historic 1976 Paris Tasting That Revolutionized Wine」の著者のサイン会も付いています。

ピノのオークションとして世界的に有名なのはブルゴーニュで11月に開かれるオスピス・ドゥ・ボーヌ。これに倣って，5月19～21日にソノマで「Hospices of Sonoma」が開かれます。

Sonoma Coast，RRV，Green Valleyの35のワイナリが参加します。Flowers，Gary Farrel，Joseph Swan，Iron Horse，Patz&Hall，Paul Hobbsといった有名ワイナリや，Freeman，Kosta Browne，Radio-Coteauなど新興の人気ワイナリなど充実の顔ぶれ。

場所はGreen ValleyのGoldridgepinotのようです。

参加費は，金曜日に開かれるワインメーカー・ディナーが275ドル，土曜日のオークションが75ドル，日曜日のランチが175ドル。全部参加するなら400ドルです。
