カリフォルニアワインのお勝手口

Mondavi家が化粧品を始めました。名前はDavi Skin。ワインと無関係ではなく，ワイン醸造の副産物として抗酸化作用がある物質ができ，それを使っているそうです。

ほかにも茶葉やオリーブ，ラズベリー，ローズマリー，大豆など，いかにも健康によさそうなものを原料としています。メインの製品はLe Grand Cruというアンチエイジングのフェイス・クリームでなんと60ml175ドルもします。

米国の化粧品としてはかなり強気の値段設定のような気がしますが，うまくいくのでしょうか。なお，男性用と女性用があるそうです。

週刊でPinot Noirのニューズレターを発行しているPinotFileが最新号でピノのクイズを出しています。かなりオタッキーな内容なので，全問正解したらすごいと思います。ちなみに僕は35問中25問正解。ケアレスミスが数問あったのが残念。

どちらもBrian Loringのニューズレターに書かれていたワイナリで，実質的なワインメーカーはBrian自身。畑のソースも同じようなところがあったりして，分かりにくい＆悩ましいです。

畑はPaliの方がShea，Momtazi，Olivet Grange，Keefer Ranch，Durell，Cargasacchi Jalama，Turner。Golden'sの方がRancho OntiverosとTurner。

PaliのSheaとMomtaziはオレゴンの畑ですが，中でもSheaはSin Qua Nonが以前購入していたブロックだということ（Loringも2006年からSheaをラインナップに加えるそうです）。また，Cargasacchi JalamaはいわゆるCargasacchiとは別で，Santa Rita Hillsの脇にある畑（AVAはSanta Barbara）。TurnerはClos Pepe，Babcock，Melvilleに囲まれた新しい畑。1エーカー当たり0.5トンという信じられないほどの少ない収穫量だそうです。

QuintessaのワインメーカーAaron Pott氏はこの夏の酷暑をしのぐため，ブドウにアロエの液を含んだ「tea」を噴射するという対策を取ったそうです。

"Which is why winemaker Aaron Pott, taking a cue from sun worshippers, has started spraying his grapes with a compost "tea" that includes small amounts of aloe vera and yucca, known for their abilities to soothe over-sunned skin."

これだけでなく，葉で日陰を作るとかもしているのですが，アロエの効果は結構あるそうな。また，こういった「tea」を噴射するというのはバイオダイナミクスにのっとっているそうです。よくわかりませんが。

柳屋でもParker 100点のShafer Hillside Select先行予約しています。2万9900円と先日紹介したのより微妙に高いですが，その代わりおまけ付き。ワイングッズ3～5点の福袋に加え，運がよければShaferのCabernet 2003（55ドル相当）やオリジナル・キャップ（20ドル相当）が当たるそうです。

ちなみに，同じページに載っている，ファイヤーブレイク（ラスト・ヴィンテージ）やリレントレスも相当おいしいです。お勧め。

Robert ParkerがWine Advocateを去ったPierre Rovani，Daniel Thomasesの後任となる4人を発表しました。Parkerに次ぐ，多くの地域をカバーするのがDavid Schildnecht，イタリアをカバーするのがAntonio Galloni，オレゴン・ワシントンやオーストラリアなどをカバーするのがDr. Jay Miller，そしてポルトガルのドライ・ワインをカバーするのがMark Squires。

"David Schildknecht, who has written for the Advocate part-time since 2005, will leave his job in the wine business to become full-time in the New Year. He will bear much of the work left by Rovani as well as covering other areas not regularly touched on by the publication."

この中でMark SquiresはParkerの掲示板のモデレータも勤める人。Parkerがかなり懇願して新たなスタッフに入ってもらったもよう。ポルトガルのドライ・ワインというところが渋いです。
