南カリフォルニアで発生したトーマス・ファイアーがさらに危険になりつつあります。2、3日は風が収まって包囲率も35％まで上がりましたが、また東から西への強風が戻ってきてサンタ・バーバラ方面への延焼が広がりつつあります。非常に乾いた風で、一旦火が収まったところもまた燃える危険がありそうです。

California is used to wildfires, but the ferocity and the magnitude of recent outbreaks is rattling people. These are megafires. また、延焼面積はは25万エーカーとなり、2007年にサンタ・バーバラで起こったザカ・ファイアーを超えてカリフォルニア史上4番目の規模になりました。また、消火活動にあたっていた消防士が一人亡くなっています。

今の勢いだと、まだ落ち着くまではかなりかかりそうな雰囲気です。せめて風がやんでほしいものですが…
