Freemanがレッドウッドの林をランドトラストに寄付
日本でも人気のソノマのワイナリFreemanが24エーカーの林をBodega Land Trustに寄付すると発表しました。この林はFreemanが2007年に購入したOccidentalの地所の一部で，Sebastopolにある現在のワイナリから5マイルほど海よりのところにあります。
50エーカーの地所のうち14エーカーの果樹園と牧草地には5種類のクローンのピノと，一部はシャルドネを植えますが，今回林の部分を寄付することにしたわけです。オーナーのKen Freemanは次のように語っています。
新しい畑はFreeman Ranchと名付けられ，2012年にはブドウの半分が自社畑になる予定だといいます。Akikoさんは「Freeman Ranch will allow us even more control over our fruit sources. With its high elevation and close proximity to the coast, this area is perfect for cool-climate viticulture」と言っています。Akikoさん，いつのまにかアシスタント・ワインメーカーという肩書きも付いています。
最近，不況でワイナリに関してもあまりいい話を聞かないのですが，これは久々のうれしいニュースでした。
ちなみに，フリーマンのワイン，下の店かなり安いです。6月19日までは7000円以上買うと送料無料です。
